Blue Ledge Farm offers two internships, Feb 15- June 15 and June 15- Nov 15, or therabouts. The February postion focuses on our does freshening (birthing) and the raising of kid goats, milking, as well as cheesemaking, and then spring maintenance around the farm. The spring/summer position covers the height of grazing, milking, as well as cheesemaking, the occasional farm tour, and farmer's markets every Saturday. ALL POSITIONS FOR 2012 ARE FILLED.

We offer:

An on-farm apartment with full kitchen, bath, utilities included, access to a garden, plus a small stipend for 40 hours/week of work. An internship with us is an opportunity to experience first hand the realities of a commerical dairy goat and cheesemaking operation. We are available and open to answer and all questions relating to our farm and business.

We ask for:

A positive approach to hard work and menial tasks. The right individual is able work independently both in the barn and cheesehouse and has a willingness to adjust work schedules to meet a variety of our and our staff's needs. Forty hours of work a week includes, but not limited to: milking our eighty goats, cleaning barns and equipment, assisting in all aspects of cheese production, helping package and sell cheese and being a "second hand" in occasional herd management tasks. Lastly, we have two small children and so we place emphasis on bringing folks onto our farm that will be good influences in their lives.

Dairy farming and cheesemaking is a lot of menial, repetitive work and our corner of Vermont can feel very rural! Realize that you will be working hard and can feel isolated at times. That said, we love what we do and think our corner of the world is astoundingly beautiful and rich with great people!
